Remote updating

  • 30. October 2017 at 2:10
    Hello.
This is my first time and I am having difficulty already in finding how to place a post,(sorry for the duplication newbie error) but I think I've finally figured it out. Ever since RFID and later NFC chips came into being I have seen its potential/use in my current job, but know one then would even acknowledge it, Boy! how times have changed.
I once saw an article about a company who claim they can, but cannot find the article again so I thought I would ask if it is possible to,remotely update either RFID or NFC chips i.e. say you have 200 bus stops and you need update timetables, is it currently possible to be sat at ones desk and hit a button to update them. The application could be used for various things I know and could be used to push updated adverts, but I cannot just get my head round how or where a writer could be placed.

I know there is Bluetooth tech out there but I wanted to send to the chip so that customers could be able to have upto date info to their phones or am I getting to far in front of myself.

    Hi Stephen,

Do you have a technical question?

Sorry for the delay I forgot to click in the notify me box.
My question is: Is it possible to update an NFC chip from a desk to say 200 signs in various locations. There was a company in the USA which said yes but I cannot find it, so that's why I am here at the foundation of knowledge. IS IT POSSIBLE.

    Hi Stephen,

Of course, you can write to a NFC tag! But take in mind, it is not a USB stick! You usually write a small amount of data (from 128 bytes to 8 KB).

    Hello TapLinx team.
Thanks for getting back, yes I have timetables which are 2 KB,I have a reader/writer on my desk, but is it possible from my desk to update a chip embedded in a poster. If not from my desk then a drive by vehicle to bus shelter. Like I mention before I once saw a paper on this, from the states, but I've lost it in a system crash.

    Hi Stephen,

Update NFC tags is only possible, if you tap the tag with a smartphone or a reader, connected with your laptop.
