IT-TRANS 2016: Successful launch of the MIFARE® DESFire® EV2 contactless smart card IC 15. March 2016
The IT-TRANS conference is the global hub for IT solutions in the public transport industry. From March 1-3, 2016 about 5,000 professionals from 60 countries gathered in Karlsruhe to discuss the latest trends in public transport. The conference is seen as a place where the sector meets to discuss IT solutions that support the growth of public and sustainable urban transport.
Enabling Smart Cities with the MIFARE® DESFire® EV2
With the launch of the new MIFARE DESFire EV2 at IT-TRANS this year we have demonstrated the next evolution of contactless smart card ICs, specifically designed to meet upcoming challenges and enable Smart Cities. To empower the smart infrastructures of tomorrow, the MIFARE DESFire EV2 chip integrates enhanced multi-application support to facilitate new business models. Different applications, like transport ticketing, bike rental, access management, loyalty programs, micropayments and much more can now be stored on a single smart card. The innovative MIsmartApp feature makes it all possible, as it functions like a personal app store in the contactless smart card. How do we think modern urban transport will look like?
As we head towards a new era of urbanization – half of the world’s population will live in cities by 2050 – there is the need to connect things in a smart way and to provide secure infrastructures for everybody. At our booth at IT-TRANS we have showcased a V2X demo, a wireless communication solution for connected mobility. Through communication with the infrastructure, like traffic lights or bicycle helmets, one’s life can be made easier and vulnerable road users can be protected. Smart mobility is always a hot topic and our bike sharing demo, which was made with partner Nextbike, is easy to handle and offers security features as well.
