The AN10787 describes a mechanism to implement a "directory structure". What I know is, it is used by some card application implementers. But if one user expect to operate on a dedicated sector and this clashes with another project requirements, a MAD will not help you.
You do not have this kind problems with the MIFARE DESFire because of the flexible architecture.
