Arcontia implements a MIFARE based AFC solution in San José, Costa Rica.

Gothenburg, Sweden, May 2, 2013 – ARCONTIA INTERNATIONAL AB, a Swedish producer of contactless smart card products and solutions for Automatic Fare Collection (AFC), today announces that it has received an initial order for 250 ARC3300T5 ticket validators from MicroPagos de Costa Rica SA, a local AFC system integrator and partner based in San José, Costa Rica.
In 2011, MicroPagos developed an electronic ticketing system based on NXP’s MIFARE technology, including MIFARE DESFire EV1 cards and MIFARE AV2 SAMs. In 2013, MicroPagos placed an order for ARC3300T5 ticket validators from Arcontia to be used onboard buses operating in the greater San José metropolitan area.
With enhanced user interface and contactless features, the ARC3300T5 ticket validator allows passengers to pay for their trip faster, easier and more convenient. Moreover, the validators come with both GPRS and GPS functionality for online communication and remote device management, enabling operators to overview their fleet in real time.
“The overall reliability and versatility that the Arcontia ARC3300T5hardware and software development environment offers us, combined with the capabilities of the MIFARE DESFire EV1 and SAM AV2, have allowed us to develop our own flexible, secure AFC solution on the front-end (validator and top-up) as well as back-end (payment clearing and settlement) platform in a relatively short period of time”, says Roy Vargas, CEO of MicroPagos de Costa Rica SA.

The ARC3300T5 validator is an interactive contactless terminal housing a 5.7″ TFT colour touch display and four physical buttons. Furthermore, it comes with Ethernet, GPRS/UMTS, WiFi and GPS communication. The validator is compliant with the entire MIFARE family, Smart MX, FeliCa, Calypso and ISO 18092 Near Field Communication (NFC), making it ideal for high frequency contactless applications that require speed and convenience for fast transactions and quick passenger throughput.
