hello, i have a couple of questions
1. I am trying to develop a method of using Smart Cards to decrypt containers with VeraCrypt. I am using an ACR-122U contactless reader/writer and the included Mifare 1k cards.
2. Is the Mifare 1k compatible with VeraCrypt? and is the ACR-122U hardware compatible?
3. If the products are not compatible, any suggestions for what would work?
4. Can anyone direct me to any resources or use cases of using Smart Cards with VeraCrypt? the online documentation is not as clear to me as i would hope.
Thank You,
Elisha

Hi Elisha,
As I know, VeraCrypt is a software to encrypt mass storage devices like hard drives or USB sticks.
The MIFARE Classic IS NOT a mass storage device! There is no software which takes a smartcard as mass storage device (as I know). The available memory is much slower (1K until 8K) and the transfer times are much higher.
The typical use case for a smart card is to verify a saved password and contains a small amount of information like user ID, account balance etc. For carrying data you should use an USB stick.

Thank you for replying!
I am not intending to use the card as as such, i know it is not a mass storage device.
Im trying to figure out how to use the card to store a password or keyfile to access an encrypted container or volume.

Hi Elisha,
In your case you should study the user manual of the reader. Usually each reader manufacturer supply a PC/SC library and a proprietary library for the reader. Here you will find how to communicate with the reader/the card.
The MIFARE Classic memory is separated in sectors and blocks. Each sector has its own key pair which controls the access. But you are free to encrypt your data and save encrypted data onto the card.
