Mifare Plus read range

  • 24. April 2013 at 17:47
I have an omnikey 5321 and can read mifare classic cards at a range of 50mm but I cannot read Mifare Plus cards at this range. In fact it seems to be as poor as 10mm.

If I reduce the baudrate to be 106kbs the performance for the Mifare Plus improves to near 40mm.

    Why is this?

I ask because this is a bit of a show stopper for upgrading existing infrastructures where 10mm cannot be physically achieved.

There is also a suspicion that AES encryption reduces the effective read range but the user reports are not to clear at the moment.

I'd welcome any thoughts on this.

It is maybe an engineering sample or bad antenna design. That is the reason why especially for Mifare Plus are certifications like with AIT are in place for Inlays and cards.

You can ask AdvanIDe for better Samples. Regards, KP
