Hi, My application will read and write EV1 4k cards, but I'm having issues writing to a key fob. Is there anything different about the ev1 fobs? I have blue ev1 2k fobs.

    Hi Bryan,

This has to do with the antenna sizes!

A smartcard uses usually the ISO7816 ID-1 size, which is quite large. Table readers are normally larger than the smartcard and phone readers are smaller. But the table reader surrounds the smartcard and the smartcard surrounds the phone antenna (which is usually very small). You will get adequate couplings for the magnetic field in both use-cases. But your fob has a very small antenna and the coupling is worse. The phone antenna has also a small antenna, but if you do not know exactly the position of the antenna in the rear plate, the fob can be totally out of the phone’s antenna and you will see connection aborts.

Take in mind, you will get the best coupling if both antennas lay directly on each another.
