The MFRC522 provides the functionality to operate ISO/IEC 14443 type A cards or tags. This ISO standard describes how to activate a single card, even with more than one card in the field. This is called anticollision procedure. This procedure can be used to activate and de-activate cards.
So in principle the operation of more than one tag/card is possible.
