Usually the driver of your NFC reader will try to find out which card is in the field. Then you should use the PC/SC interface to communicate with the card.
The MIFARE Plus S can be in different security levels (SL) which also implies different protocol layers. For instance, a unprepared card is in SL = 0 and the Plus uses MIFARE Classic protocol (ISO14443-3). In SL = 3 the Plus uses ISO14443-4 protocol.
For some NFC readers the manufacturer allows to control the interface with proprietary commands, if this is not covered with PC/SC commands. You need the user manual of your reader to check if such proprietary commands exist.
