Hi,
you do not need the SAM to authenticate to the DESFire. To have the Pegoda reader and the MIFAREdiscover windows software is all what you need. An authentication is only required, if the security setting of the application and file need this. The access to a file can be set also to a free access (without encryption). This depend on the file settings.
