Smart loyalty – a new way to travel with MIFARE

Modern loyalty programs, which reward customers for their business, can be traced back to the early 1980s, when airlines began offering exclusive benefits for “frequent flyers”. The trend has been growing to other industries ever since. The Loyalty 2016 event was an excellent venue to connect with loyalty experts and discuss innovations for moving customer loyalty to the next level.

In one of the product workshops at the conference, NXP showcased how loyalty programs can be enhanced by contactless smart cards and NFC technology. So-called “hybrid programs”, card-based systems that offer supplementary smartphone apps, provide a safe choice for any loyalty scheme. New products were also introduced such as the MIFARE® DESFire® EV2 and its multi-application MIsmartApp feature that allows loyalty programs to support multi-service environments that enable new business models and additional revenue streams.

As many users are interested in using their mobile device to connect with a loyalty program, the MIFARE SDK (Software Development Kit) can easily be used to create customized loyalty apps to suit any loyalty scheme. Customers can then interact with their loyalty apps using their physical cards through NFC.
