Sophia-Antipolis, October 22, 2012: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of   Dubai has once again selected ASK contactless smart cards, through its client ABBA, to offer its passengers a seamless experience on all public transport of the city. The cards are based on NXP’s MIFARE DESFire chip.

I’m really proud of this new achievement that strengthens ASK outstanding expertise in transportation schemes and, above all, a long lasting partnership with our client ABBA, says Hamdi Chaouch, ASK regional sales manager. It is important for RTA to increase the use of public transport and turn Dubai into a more sustainable and convenient city for users.

Thanks to this reloadable contactless card, users can access the metro, public buses and marine transportation. Today, passengers can buy or reload their NOL cards at RTA’s premises and at more than 1,000 locations including selected shops and ATMs.

This project is a long lasting ticketing scheme for our country, says Dinesh R. Shetty, ABBA Country manager. Our company was rewarded by the UAFC department to have helped them implement this system in the best conditions.”

In the future, RTA will extend NOL cards services to facilitate mobility throughout the city. Taxi operating under RTA’s supervision will accept payment with NOL cards. A park and ride program is also under way and will be launched next year with parking meters equipped with contactless readers accepting NOL cards.
