MIFARE

Holi Fusion Festival in Eindhoven goes cashless with MIFARE® 5. September 2016

The 20th of August was characterized by colors, while attendees of the third edition of the Holi Fusion Festival in Eindhoven enjoyed a colorful blast and the benefits of NXP technology. NXP’s MIFARE® DESFire® EV1 contactless IC powered the Holi card, used for cashless payments during the event.

The new way of paying
The MIFARE DESFire EV1 chip offers the perfect balance of speed and security, plus it enables to have additional use cases (like access control or loyalty schemes) on one credential – besides cashless payment. So a card with a MIFARE DESFire EV1 chip has lots of advantages for both visitors and the hospitality industry/the event organizers. Some of these are:

  • Not having to carry cash
  • Quick and safe payments, so reduced waiting times for visitors and increased sales and less administration for entrepreneurs
  • The entrepreneur can apply price differentiation and will get a better insight into the spending pattern per user
  • The entrepreneur has the possibility of adding other applications, such as loyalty and age and/or access control and can get more out of his marketing and interaction activities
  • The event owner gets a clear insight into what happens during his event and can adapt new business models to that
  • Other digitally driven processes such as ticketing can be handled via the chip and therefore via a card or other wearables

On top of that, more and more fraud is being committed in the festival world through the use of tokens and, in an effort to combat that, cashless payment is becoming increasingly popular.

Nowadays, the term MIFARE covers a whole range of chips: From simple chips to very advanced chips, with a high degree of security.
